Got a related question.....I have been concerned about the scratched slides in a couple of my Danscos. For instance, I have recently completed a Roosie Dansco and some of the slides have been scratched from the multiple times they have been taken out and in. Does anyone know if Dansco (I havent found any) produces replacement slides? They would be helpful on my completed sets that I wont be sliding in and out any more.

I have never seen replacement slides sold separately. However, you can improvise by purchasing cellulose acetate sheets at most art or office supply stores. If you are of a certain age, you may remember overhead projector transparency sheets used by grade school and high school teachers. They are also used as protective covers for artwork. Album slides are composed of cellulose acetate as well but the downside is that you will have to cut the full sheets down to the proper size for an album.

I feel stupid for writing this post because I'm not offering actual good information....but, I remember that I have seen the slides offered for sale separately on some website, I just cannot remember where. So I know it does exist. It was sold specifically for Dansco if I remember correctly.

Allegedly you can ask the manufacturer for a replacement set and they'll sell them to you, even though they're not really advertised as a separate product.

However, they only list them for the State Quarter Albums. Possibly if you contacted them direct they could or may be able to supply more. Now here is an odd thing. Not long ago I got a Whitman Catalog and it's close to 100 pages. As most know Whitman is now owned by Harris. The catalog contains Albums for Whitman, US Mint, And Harris. It lists almost anything you could imagine for coins, EXCEPT, additional or replacement slides for their Albums. Time for me to contact them and complain. AND this get more interesting. I tried some of the other manufacturers of Albums and they too do not sell extra slides. Eagle, CoinEdge, Harco and Guardmaster.

As I usually do I contacted Whitman Publishing about those slides. Customer service 1-800-546-2995. I asked why there is no mention of plastic slides for Albums in their catalog or on their web site. A lady told me they do not sell additional plastic slides, nor do they send or give dealers additional slides. Stores and/or internet dealers too do not get extra slides from Whitman. HOWEVER, as long as I asked, they are going to send me a complete set of them for the Cent Album and free. I wonder if people started to contact Dansco, they too could get them free from them?

No. We are US Modern Coins, Inc, a direct distributor of the Dansco product line They do not have an official website, at least not one that I can find. As far as I know, the only way to contact them... Dansco Corporation (323) 734-6373 4313 W Jefferson Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90016

Quote: That is not the Dansco website. True. I at first thought that was. A complete search I found there is obviously no way to easily contact them. This is odd since so many other manufacturers have a 1-800 type number.

I don" t understand all the fuss. I just spray Pam non-stick on the coin and I have not had any problems. JUST KIDDING! She has a sister also.

just carl, that is genius. But, I figured it would get enough on the slide if I repeatedly removed and reinserted the slides 212.2 times a day. Don't use the kind with the olive oil in it. Use the kind with the "butter" flavor. It is the same chemical composition as petroleum based plastic coatings. J/K really J/K

A real answer, courtesy of paleoguy45. Quote: One thing I've found to minimize the potential of putting rim scratches on MS/Proof coins residing in a Dansco is canned air. After I slide out the top mylar sheet, I give the coin hole a blast of canned air, insert the coin in its new home and then blast the side of the mylar that's going to contact the coin with the air. It's a win/win. Not only are my Danscos dust/lint free - I also have a keyboard without beard hairs between the keys!

Quote: One thing I've found to minimize the potential of putting rim scratches on MS/Proof coins residing in a Dansco is canned air. Not sure but I think canned air was discussed in a post a long time ago. Someone stated that some of the canned air is just that, canned air which contains moisture and almost anything else in the air. Not purified, not dehumidified, just air. So in for this situation, if that is true, that canned air could be blowing almost water onto the coins.

I never use canned air. I had it spray moisture out once.
