A classic example of why rule #1 is don't clean coins.

Sort of looks like whoever did that used some sort of pummace material. Wire brushed might have only gone one way but those lines are all over the place. What a mistake that cleaning attempt was.

It's funny... I read all the comments above mine here before I actually looked at the pic of the coin... from the harsh comments, I expected not to be able to even make out what type of coin it was, lol. Yeah, it has scratches, but it's not disfigured or anything. To me it looks as if they cleaned it with steel wool, like maybe a SOS cleaning pad. The seller should have pointed out the fact that the coin was cleaned. Probably a classic case of a non-collector thinking they were improving the coin by making it shine again. What a shame.

If it was discounted I'd buy it and try to let it tone in my pocket for a few years!

LOL, the scratches ARE disfiguring it! I agree a hand job with steel wool is what this looks like to me

Looks like a 1928-S also. Someone tried to scrub it off but I see it. Junk.

I was at a coin show a few weeks ago and saw a table with a number of dollars looking just like this one. The guy told me his brother had cleaned them and those marks look exactly the same. Said he used a Q tip and Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish you can buy at an auto parts store, rubbed them to try to make them shine and then used a towel to scrub them clean. He was selling them as is for the silver. What's more troubling is the seller on ebay has a 100 percent rating and looks like a lot of sales. Why put this up without stating the issue of cleaning happening?
