Poll Question
Hello everyone,

I posted about an auction that basically offered a random Mexico cap & ray 2 reales coin in a middling grade due to an utter lack of understanding on the part of the seller. I'm still curious what coin you would hope to get--it should be more fun as a poll! The dates are: 1858, 1861, 1863, 1867. Please pick your favorite and explain why!

Sorry in advance if I've given some options that don't exist--I don't have a reference on these minor issues. Anyway, they would be quite the find!

Poll Choices
 A 1867 DL - Alamos
 Ce 1863 ML - Catorce
 Ca 1858 BA - Chihuahua
 Ca 1867 BA - Chihuahua
 C 1863 CE - Culiacan
Do 1867 - Durango (either assayer)
 Zs 1867 JS - Zacatecas
 Ga 1863 FV - Guadalajara
 Ga 1867 JM - Guadalajara
 Ga 1861 JG - Guadalajara
 Ho 1861 FM - Hermosillo
 Ho 1863 GM - Hermosillo
Oa 1858 - Oaxaca (either assayer)
Pi 1858 - San Luis Potosi (either assayer)
Pi 1867 CA - San Luis Potosi

Not sure if this 2 reales even exists, but I voted Catorce 1863 because I would love to have a coin from this fascinating town!

Very few of these actually exist as real coins (three or four I lost count) - I would like all of the non-existent dates because they would be COUNTERFEITS.

But because I a realist I voted for the rarest date on the list - the 1861 Hermosillo a super rarity.

Great choice, Swamperbob--the 8 reales is certainly a beauty! If anyone has pics of any of the coins mentioned here, please share!

The Sonora cap and Eagle are exceptionally beautiful.

But beware - I have seen a VERY impressive forgery of the 1861 Ho 8R on the market. It is a numismatic forgery and since I have seen only one example in the past 30 years I presume the forger was NOT Greedy and did not make very many.

The 1R version is very readily available in decent grades - they appear at least a few times a year. The 2R is hardly ever seen in decent shape. But the translation of the image to a tinier size did result in a much less impressive eagle.

Hi Swamperbob,

Please see another (forgery?) of the 1861 Hermosillo peso:

I wonder if someone just struck it rich!
