Bruce, during these dates (1928 to 1963) there are two different types of notes for the $5. They can either be United States Notes (Red serial number and seal) and Federal Reserve Notes (Green serial number and seal).
If these notes are the red seals, and have some crispness left in them (no tears or writting) then I would say they are worth:
1963's are worth $15 Fine to $30 Extremely Fine
1928C is worth $65 in Fine to $200 Extremely Fine
If these notes are green seals then I can't tell their value. There are 12 different districts that print these notes. The black seal (the round black printing on the left side of the bill) has a letter representing what city it is printed in. I need this to tell you its value.
When you list the serial number for the notes you have, you put the star on the left side of the serial number. Doing this, I am assuming that they are red seals since the Feder Reserve Notes have the star on the right hand side of the serial number.
Please keep in mind that the condition of these notes are what makes the valuable. A Fine wont have much crispness left and has many folds. An extremely fine note will have much crispness left and very few folds. If these notes have any rips or writing, don't expect to get top dollar for them. But any star note is a keeper. I mean, unless you want to sell them to me. :P
Good things,
Ty
