i went and done some bartering this afternoon, picked up about 100 pennies and 50 half pennies. a few niceish ones, lots of repeat dates in the 40's, no 46 :( . but did find this interesting error. the S and part of the T can be seen.   |

Looks like PMD to me. It looks like the meat of the metal in the s and t have been peeled back by a sharp impact at an earlier date, The scratch line from the t to the end of the anomaly on the coin indicates this. Sorry mate but in my opinion this is PMD  |

not 100% either way on this one yet, the line down from the top bar of the t seems to also be raised, I started to think maybe a pocket of air inside the planchet blew out during the strike? the area under the damage does not appear to be smooth or have a cut/sliced appearance.  I will see if I can get better close ups tomorrow |

Could have been a crook planchet to start with.

1 is it a peel lamination error when the piece is lifting up or tearing off or 2. A Cud lump of extra metal |

this is what I have come up with, out of about 200 pics    i think these 2 show the lumps and bumps the best. what can be seen of the S is raised, and either side is lower. the bottom pic shows the raised bit on the outside of the T, and a lump at the left end of the cross of the T. the best I have is, there was an air pocket inside the planchet which released immediately after the die lifted. if its PMD I cannot come up with an explanation to explain the unevenness in the hole. It looks like that part of the coin has been "skinned", weird. could be a lamination error, thats the only way I can explain it. If it was PMD then there wouldn't be any detail under the peeled bit but you can see the s and t clearly |

Lamination - A form of planchet flaw caused by imperfections in the metal, whereby a thin strip of the metal separates itself from the coin.
The lighter colour part is probably from more recent playing around with, but still nice interesting find :) good pics
