Not sure about this, but doesn't the actual picture illustrate the fact that the doubling per say takes the numbers down close to the rim of the coin. Your top picture does not show this at all. But maybe the actual picture is not "exactly" what you would see on a coin. As for the shadows, I think it's just that. Otherwise you would see the shadow above the middle point of the 3 as well right? Just my thoughts is all. Most likely wrong again. lolol
