Ok so I picked up 40 rolls of dimes today from the bank and the teller took out some rolls and gave me the box. She asked me if everything looked good and I took a quick peek said yes and left. Upon getting home (across town) I counted the rolls and she actually gave me 44 rolls. Now I dont know if I should bring them back. On 1 hand is karma and my integrity work selling for $20 and on the other hand, her mistake, banks loss and the dimes are all vacume wrapped so I have to buy new rolls to put them in. What do you guys think?

Karma can be a pain in the derrier sam. Do what you think is right.

If you search rolls regularly and use this bank with any frequency, I'd take them back. You'll feel better about it.

The act of posing this question tells me that you know you should return them. Obviously you know what is right.

I don't believe in karma but they should be returned.

Agree with CC Ottawa, if you're asking you already know.
It may not be a great amount but think of it this way, are you living up to the expectations you have of yourself if you keep it?

I wouldn't be surprised if she catches her error and knows who has the missing dimes by the end of today. :P

I don't see how this is a moral dilema at all.
A moral dilema "...is a complex situation that will often involve an apparent mental conflict between moral imperatives."
You have something that is not yours. You did not steal it but it was given to you by mistake so you are not at fault there, but the proper thing to do is to take them back to their rightful owner.
Just take them back.

Second thoughts: Like ContraJame said, they will know they are short by the end of the day. Given the price of gas and that the bank is 'across town' (not sure how far that is in your town) perhaps you can call the branch and let them know what happened. Maybe offer to return the coins next time your in (assuming you go there often) or offer to let them debit your account for the $20? Was the teller cute? Maybe she was testing you?

CC-Ottawa summed it us nicely -- time to get in the car and bring the coins back!

If a teller's balance comes up short for the day, I think they have to pay it out of their own pocket.
I'd give that money back ASAP.

Ya thats what is what I'm thinking....just feel bad and hate bad karma. I just started the roll searching thing so I chose this as one of the banks to pick soins up from. Will bring em back...I know its what I would want someone to do for me if situation was reversed. Thanks all. CHEERS!

Nothing wrong with searching them first. Just put them in regular dime rolls.
