Two rules to live by: ‘When you tell the truth you never have to remember what it was you said.' And... always... always ‘do what's right.' And... for those who don't

You have to ask others for advice?

When it comes to moral guidance only your voice 'within' can guide you.

head back to the bank.

a similar situation happened to me last year. I received all CWR's. when I got home, $50 of them were FAKE rolls with DIMES on each end and PENNIES in the middle! I went back and explained and they were happy to help. this happens more often than one realizes. I told them to check their cameras because this wasnt just 2 rolls of dimes, $50 is a lot for an average person to bring in.

this happened at least 3 times! but the next 2 times, I checkled each roll at the teller window and then after I was sure, no rolls were fake, I left. the bank was shocked and I hope they take measures that can help prevent this type of illegal activity...

be honest, and I am sure you being a good, loyal customer, they will inderstand and happily refind you. I want to also point out that CWR's are "at your own risk" becuase they arent the banks technically.. that is what they told me. but if you were to get a sealed box and it was short, thats on them

if you live too far away, call and chat with the Mgr. there.
tell them to debit your acct, as you do not wish to burn all that fuel just to ret $10 to them.
the MGR will thank you and.....will take you for lunch next time you are in.....
or, hand you a fuel coupon......for the Gasbar next door....
Also, you remove any possible suspicion that might have fallen on the teller...
she has to cover her short fall I believe...

Wow... to many saints on this site.... First off the bank will show a shortage but cant pinpoint the exact teller when it comes to coin SO NO she doesn't pay from her pocket. Second this is not some nice old lady who wants to sell her coin collection these guys will take your house away form you if you loose your job and cant make payments and your family is starving. This is the same bank that if you get ANY FAKE bills from there ATM even the ones AT THE BANK will not take them back saying were sorry.(yes this has happened. at which point I just turned around and put them back into the ATM that I received them). Please don't let the nice tellers fool you into thinking that the bank are the good guys. The banks actually have insurance and do cover there losses and mistakes. they are not broke and will not be going out of business because of this.

That all being said. Keep the money. They have millions more where that came from. For all of you who think that this is wrong let me ask you this... when your roll searching and you come across a roll that has more then what was intended for the roll for example a roll of dimes has 54 dimes not 50. What do you do with the extra dimes? I'm guessing 99% of us keep them. yes its not the bank that made the first mistake but it is the bank that took them themselves in the first place from the original person. Tellers can sometimes tell you if a roll is over just by looking at it and yet they still take it. So should you.

skwa.. in regards to finding short rolls/heavy rolls.. I make exact change. if I am short, 49 or 48 of 50, I use my own money and make 50. if I find 54, I save them and put them in stacks that were short. it usually works out to where I dont have extra

superstore has missed scanning some products of mine a few times. I always went to the customer service desk and paid for it. even though I never got a "thank you" or any explicit appreciation from them, I think I will keep doing that if it happens again. a sweet sound sleep is of the most importance to me.

any update, samsnate? perhaps the teller is cute after all. :)

Next time in the neighborhood, return them. Call the manager now and let him/her know your plan. You may find you'll receive some special treatment during your next roll hunting trip there, who knows?

My only somewhat similar bank story: in changing two $100s for ten $20s, teller somehow included two $50s. I noticed in parking lot and immediately returned to the teller where I was informed "we don't make mistakes." Tried again, was told again, "we don't make mistakes" only this time very rudely and loud enough for all to hear. So I thanked the manager on the way out for the $60 and donated it to a Toys for Tots type place. Oh yes, that bank is no longer in business and I'm still waiting for that karma guy to arrive!

Ok so I picked up 40 rolls of dimes today from the bank and the teller took out some rolls and gave me the box. She asked me if everything looked good and I took a quick peek said yes and left. Upon getting home (across town) I counted the rolls and she actually gave me 44 rolls. Now I dont know if I should bring them back. On 1 hand is karma and my integrity work selling for $20 and on the other hand, her mistake, banks loss and the dimes are all vacume wrapped so I have to buy new rolls to put them in. What do you guys think?

This is a no brainer.
They are not yours take them back, You will be surprised at the service you get next time you use the bank if you do

i'd take them back, but tell the teller that a service attracts another and the next times she/he sees the kind of rolls you like (maybe the ones that looks really old and brought in by some old lady) to put them aside for you.

Well I thought I would let everyone know that I sorted through the rolls and brought them back. I was really on the fence about it, but It was just the right thing to do. I wasnt as concerned about the teller having to pay out of pocket and I knew it was coming from the bank but I brought them back anyways. This is a bank that I wanted topick rolls up from due to its location near retirment homes..old homes and shopping so I think it is an ideal bank to deal with. I brought them to the same teller as well and she was just floored with the honesty and reall appreciated that there were good people out there. Gives you that warm fuzzy butterfly feeling. She'll remember me when I go back ina few weeks. P.S. Out of 2 rolls of quarters and 40 rolls of...sorry 43 rolls of dimes :-) I found only one 1968 silver. I'll take it though. Hopefully karma will deal me a whole roll of 1966's! HaHa!CHEERS ALL! Stay true!
