So U.S. Copper Pennies are 95% copper and are pre 1982. and they weigh 3.11 Grams.

I was looking on ebay and seen that Canadian pennies are 98% copper. Therefore wanted to know if anyone could tell me what the last year a Canadian copper penny was made and how much one would weigh.

How come 1980-1996 weigh less? if they are all 98% copper shouldn't they weigh the same? This is what I was confused on because I found a couple weighing 3.2 grams then the ones that were 2.5 I didn't keep cause I did not think it was copper.

Not if it was decided to use planchets of a smaller mass those years in the first place.

So I've found a couple Canadian Pennies that say 1867-1892 for the date. Are these 98% copper too?

The 1980-1981 and 1982-1996 are less thick than the earlier ones. It's pretty noticeable when you compare them side by side. I would imagine the Canadian govt switched to save on production costs but maybe someone else knows more about this.

What you probably found say 1867-1992 which celebrates the 125 year anniversary of the confederation I believe. So these are 1992 coins which fall into the 1982-1996 category.
