Next up is a fairly common coin, even in higher grades. This one is a highly lustrous, brilliant example of the 1935 Texas Independence Centennial piece. I already had a first-year 1934 coin in PCGS MS-66 when I spotted this one in a dealer's case, but the coin (in hand) has such a wonderful original look and cartwheel luster that I had to add it to my cabinet! Budget be damned! The Texas Centennial coin was one of those commemoratives that played a bit loose with the dates. It marks a 1936 anniversary, but had coins issued in the two years prior (1934 and 1935), the centennial year (1936) and the two years following the centennial (1937 and 1938)! Read More: Commems CollectionThe reverse design is one of the "busier" in the traditional series, but it is very well executed and wonderful to view on nicely struck examples. I'm still not pleased with the scanned images I'm posting, but I hope you enjoy! (I need to get my digital camera set up!) 1935 Texas -- Obverse in Holder Texas -- Obverse Close-Up Texas -- Reverse Close-Up Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. Very beautiful. I love the Texas commemorative. This one and the Hudson always remind me of eachother. Thanks for sharing, definitely a fantastic coin.

Beautiful coin indeed. The Texas series is one the the two that I might consider collecting multiples of ... and your 1935 is a lovely example. Thanks for sharing. David

Quote: Next up is a fairly common coin, even in higher grades. Lonnie at Silvertowne once handed me a closed box, $2000, no looking. I passed. It had 100 of those, in 2x2s. "That's a shame, I'd have bought them back at $3500."

Ooooh, that would be so tempting! Knowing my luck I would have gotten the "Zonk"!

Nice coin! It's one of my favorite commemorative designs. BTW, That old green label may be a candidate for an upgrade, although I would leave it where it is.

Pretty amazing luster on that coin and I love the details on the reverse. It is amazing to see a coin with that much detail on it. The artist did a great job on designing it. It goes together very well.
