I just picked this up. Is it me or is this obverse seriously lacking. They could have tried harder on this. The faces just don't look right. Cooments?

I have felt all of the Rushmore coins to be unattractive, hence I just have a dollar for my set.

But this one wins the prize for poor design!

Those dudes look like a cartoon by a lazy artist. That's one ugly broad. God, I hope you don't actually own that one!

Wow, Sammy Davis is turniong in his grave. You are so right. I wonder if she can tap dance? Do Kennedys' dance? Maybe Maria weight lifts

muddler: I agree with you, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Special Olympics dollar has got to be the least attractive of all the modern US commemorative dollars. Recognizing her work with Special Olympics is fine, showing her in such an unflattering portrait seems almost unfair -- a full side portrait is not her best angle! War Nickel: While the Mount Rushmore 50-cent piece may not have been his most "classic" work, Marcel Jovine (the designer) was a very gifted and respected artist who designed almost 200 medals and coins (as well as many other sculpted works of art). His excellent work can also be found on the 1987 Constitution Half Eagle, the reverse of the 1988 Olympic Half Eagle, the reverse of the 1990 Eisenhower silver dollar and a few other modern US commemoratives. I would not consider him a "lazy artist" and don't agree that the Mt. Rushmore coin looks like a "cartoon." It is not always easy to capture the full beauty of something as grand as Mt. Rushmore within the confines of a small, low-relief metal disk.

I have the Mount Rushmore half dollar and dollar in a 1991 Prestige Proof set. I can honestly say I never noticed before, but now I will have to take a look at it.

I have both too and when collecting for a set, the design doesn't matter. It is just to have one of each.
