Just a headsup for the Privy collectors, there is a new Dragon Privy that's selling on ebay, looks like APMEX has them.

Not a great looking coin. Definitely not worth ebay prices. The titanic coin was a private privy but had tones of media going for it. Chinese new years is over and there are many, many, many other dragon coins out there. seams like a bad choice for a privy mark. Would have done better using Olympic rings or something like that. That being said I want one, but with silver going down and it being noting special. I would not pay much more than $40 for one.

Is it the same as the Chinese Zodiac Privy? Or is this Privy seperate from that series?

I actually like the design on this one. I'd rather save some money for other offerings though, so I think I'm gunna pass on this one, especially when it seems that my only options for purchase are ebay and APMEX.

This one appears to be a second 2012 SML privy issued sponsored by APMEX -- they're advertising it as an " APMEX Exclusive". Their other recent issue for the Titanic appears to be sold out already (per their website) unless you want an encapsulated/graded version.

Disagree. Though I'm not a collector who has bought any of the various Dragon coins issued around the world this year, there definitely seems to be a strong market for them. It wouldn't surprise me to see this issue be a good seller as well, especially at its current APMEX price of ~$43.00.

No, this is a new design for 2012. The previous SML Dragon privy-marked coins were issued in 2000 and 2004.

APMEX won't have any problem getting rid of these, unless silver tumbles. I've noticed there's a bit of confusion with people thinking that this is an official RCM product. Like the 2012 Titanic, it's not.

@traevin: What do you mean by the comment that it's not an "official RCM product"? The APMEX description indicates that the coins came directly from the RCM.

APMEX pays the Royal cananadian mint to mint these coins for them, just like most privy maples. So they are real RCM maples but the mint has nothing to do with selling these coins or promoting them.

@Rockdaddy22: Yes, correct. I'm very familiar with the process involving the privy-marked SMLs. That's why I was confused/intrigued by traevin's comment. It didn't make much sense to me, he/she seemed to be indicating that APMEX bought standard SMLs and then had a private mint add a dragon privy mark (something that has been done by others). I just wanted to understand his/her meaning.

Right. The RCM made it for APMEX. It isn't for sale through the RCM, nor do they even mention its existence. That's why I put "official" in parenthesis, meaning you can't get it through the RCM and the product likely wouldn't have been produced if APMEX hadn't approached them, much like the titanic SML. Sorry for the confusion.

so this is like customized SML, anyone can have it made as long as he buys certain amount, seems the minimum is 5,000 or 3,500?

Let's make a privy SML with apple logo, it should sell well

I thought about having some made for my wedding, but I never got as far as finding out price or minimum amounts. Who knows if they would have even done it, I'm not sure what the critirea would be for approving designs.

Ok thanks for the clarification all.

So in other words... All Privy Maples have been commissioned by.. someone/private entity? If that is the case, who pays for all the zodiac signs? I'm guessing private dealers? I've always wondered how they decided on privy coins.
