Not to mention that expecting extremely fast payment doesn't really fit well with offers of combined shipping. How does demanding quick payment encourage more sales?
Some sellers offer to combine all purchases in up to 7 days, and encourage you NOT to pay right away if you plan to bid on near-future auctions.

If the buyer knew he wasn't able to pay when he hit the BIN button, he had an ethical obligation to inform the seller of that fact. Since he clearly could get online to bid on ebay, it goes without saying he could have taken a minute to contact the seller and let him know what was up. Seems to me he's using the seller's message to unethically weasel out of the deal. |

If you can't pay in 48 hours notify the seller. ebay sellers aren't into layaways. Sellers don't know if maybe you got buyers remorse and have no intention of paying. Maybe the item is fluctuating in price, what's a seller to do wait a week, and lose money because the buyer isn't considerate enough to pay promptly? I've bought hundreds of items on ebay and always pay within hours. It's just common ebay courtesy. Don't bid if you can't pay quickly! |

@ Neil, just so you know I have always paid for items purchased on ebay right away unless I was bidding on more than one of the sellers auctions and contacted them before hand. I don't. Mind that you blocked me as a buyer on ebay as there are plenty of sellers who will be happy to take my money. If you didn't notice, as a buyer and seller I have never had a negative or neutral feedback received. My point was that if I was treated rudely and threatened the way that SPP was that I would have acted similarly. I do sell on ebay, and have been on the other end of a non-payment. In my situation I clearly stated that payment was required within 48hours. The buyer didn't pay. Did I send a rude message? No. I sent a message reminding him about the overdue payment. He contacted me and said that he would pay that night when he got home from work. He never did pay. I waited an additional 3 days before filing a non-payment. |

Even the seller themselves decided they were rude and out of line. Surely this is enough to convince you that you were correct SPP, even if a few others disagree.

My apologies for coming down a bit too hard on you. You're right, I don't know you - I just know you from what you posted in this thread. Nevertheless I still think that initially refusing to pay was completely wrong. Could the seller have handled it better? Yes. I feel you should have contacted the seller right after you bid to tell him there would be a delay in payment. Had you done so, none of this would have ever happened. ebay has become a snake pit with deadbeat buyers and crooked sellers, so, putting myself in the seller's shoes, I can see why he over-reacted a bit. At any rate, all's well that ends well.  |

People develop a silly sense of "power" when on the internet. He figured he could make you pay if he threatened you. That was wrong. I sold some coins the other day on ebay. One person did not pay for 3 or 4 days. I was leaving for vacation on the 4th day, so every day I sent an invoice saying "If you do not pay for your item by the 9th, your coins will be VERY delayed in shipment because I will be on vacation for about two weeks. Thank you for understanding!" He paid on the final day, and I shipped his coins out right before I left for vacation. You dont have to be rude to get people to do what you want. |

SPP, based on your feedback on ebay (and the fact that most of us know you and have dealt with you to some degree), the filing after four days is out of line. That said, a quick email explaining why you couldn't make payment immediately would have gone a long way. I wouldn't open a case after four days, but I'd certainly be generally unimpressed with a buyer if they took that long to make payment for a BIN auction and gave no explanation as to why. |
