obverse/Two male heads facing, one inverted, Reverse/Sea eagle on the back of a dolphin "ISTPIH" above "Ar" monogram below,SNG BMC 237, 4.8 grams, around 350 BCE. This is my first ancient Greek coin and I purchased it from vcoins. I am quite shocked at how relatively low these interesting coins sell for when considering how much history they represent.It is common but has great detail.

I've seen these coins go for a pretty penny w00zi. So I'm not sure what you mean by low?

I love the dolphin/eagle reverse on these coins and this one is very nice.

Well done man!

Thanks and I did pay quite a bit but personally I think it's worth more because of the history it represents. I am curious to where other Greek coin collectors here buy their coins. Thanks.

I know we have discussed these before and it is always good to see others of our number getting one of my favorite coin types (I have a lot of favorites). I have one very much like this not worth posting but I will offer the one below which I bought from a 1998 CNG auction as a bit special. Can you see what is different about it? In the 90's these were selling in the mid $100's. Are they cheaper now? I know a lot more have been found since I got mine.

That's a very nice example w00zi--well-centered and struck on both sides!
The faces, eagles, and dolphin are well-cut, which figures a lot into price.
I hope you got a great deal on this one, because pricing these a while back, I'd guess ~$200 for a similar coin.

thanks w00zi ...

=> yah, mine is awesome

Oh, and "yes dougsmit", I do notice that your purdy eagle is pointing "right", rather than pointing left ...

=> which is apparently more rare and therefore, well played my friend, well played!!

Yeah Steve, that's what I was talking about. I've seen them go for between 200-400 bucks depending on detail, so you have nothing to be bummed about. Very nice coin.

And w00zi, you did very well on that purchase I believe. I most certainly would pay that indeed!

I bought this one some time back. It had a ticket price of >$400. I had done some work for the dealer and had some store credit so only paid half that.
