Just picked this one up at a shop over the weekend:) I like the detail on the obverse:) The original price was $115.00; discounted price offered was $75.00; I was ready to walk away (the reverse did not look like a $75.00 Geta to me); final offer and purchase price was $60.00. How do you guy's think I did fro the puchase price? Also, the 3.5 grams is almost a gram heavier than the one I found here: http://www.acsearch.info/search.htm...&c=&a=&l=#19 The seller is long time dealer of ancients and coins; but I still like to check in with you pros:) Geta, 209-212 AD, AR Denarius Rome Mint Youths bare-headed draped bust rt.,GETA CAES PONT COS Felicity standing half left, holding caduceus and cornucopia, FELICITY AVGG RIC29, 3.5 Grams, 19.5 mm

First, it is a nice Denarius. I own a few Geta Denarius and they vary in weight. Only one weighs more than 3g, while the others weigh 2.2g - 2.7g. I'm not sure that this is a problem. I see nothing wrong with your coin to make me believe it is anything other than genuine.
Second, I think you still overpaid at $60. I checked on Vcoins, and found a couple similar in condition to your coin selling for less. I know I'm considered cheap, but I wouldn't think this coin should sell for much more that $40-$45. Sorry, but that is my opinion.
Overall, however, I think you have a nice looking Denarius.

Its a nice looking coin IMHO. Could this be a double Denarius (Ant)? I have a couple of these coins with weights in the 3.5-4 gram range but they are a little later..Gordian, Philip I etc.

I think the portrait side has a lot of eye appeal, the obverse is not as good in my opinion.
Overall a good example though, if you are happy with the coin $60 might be a little over but it is not the end of the world...after all you cannot fill a car with petrol for $60 so in the scheme of things I would be happy enough.

I appreciate your honest opinions! I figured that I was overpaying a bit but buying a coin "in hand" outside of a coin show from a bricks and mortar shop...I have found ancients to be regularly overpriced. The guy was nice though and had many great stories! He had some outstanding Greeks including a Darius III. First I have ever seen. Anyways I told my wife that I overpaid for the coin, but got some first hand education from an experienced numismatist to make up the difference. I am am happy with my purchase. ... but I am going to have to be more firm with myself when I go into shops;)

It's a nice coin with a nice looking bust of the young caesar. The price of coins seem to be going up everyday. I agree with JW that it should sell for around $40 and with some searching you would probably find one at that price. But with todays prices the $60 you paid isn't all that bad.

I'm a cheapskate but don't see $60 as all that bad here. My problem with this coin is that it is a 'nothing special' reverse so I might have held off if I found one I liked better if my goal was just one Geta. The weight is very little high for older Caesar Geta. The earlier ones I have are lighter than the later ones. I'd be more concerned with one that weighed 2.5g than 3.5. All in all, I'd call it a fair coin for a fair price and not one to feel you need to apologize to the wife for buying. You need to save that for when you really mess up.

Quote: not sure where they find these any cheaper. Try Vcoins, search Geta + FELICITAS Gitbud and Naumann has this Denarius for $50. It may be in perhaps slightly better condition. Anyway, this is one venue to find coins. I just take time and search (and search and search)

The GN coin is not in better condition. Given the choice I would take the OP at $60. If you want to buy a GN coin with Geta, check out the Provincial bear face at 100 Euros. I'm too cheap but you don't see them everyday and it should win the current Smackdown with no trouble.
