2001 D Vermont Quarter That Is Too Thick?

kurtyb New Member United States 5 Posts	Posted 03/13/2007 3:15 pm I just stumbled upon a 2001 D Vermont Quarter that has a thicker rim than a standard quarter. (Looks like a stamping error) I only found this because it does not fit in a vending machine :) On a scale it weighs the same though .. Any ideas of what I have? Thanks! Becky Pillar of the Community United States 954 Posts	Posted 03/13/2007 5:27 pm Usually these are spooned or coins that were caught in dryers. The edges are taller then they should be. People take a spoon and tap on the edge of a coin to make them into rings. It takes a long time, but works very well. Report this Post to the Staff

I actually went to a prominent coin shop that had both the scale and the mic :) Both of the owners were scratching their heads ha ha ! Dave, I should have time Thursday to go back to the coin shop to measure the inside .. I'll also measure the thickness from the center.
