Dionysos Maximian abdication GOLD (but, as host, I think this is worth over $200. Dionysos, do you agree?)
steve6x Philip wolf and twins 1000th anniversary of Rome SILVER
Dooucet CONSTANTINOPOLI /Victory for the founding of Constantinople BRONZE

There are many other good historical entries, including Douct's AFRICA of Hadrian, jwharper's Carthage of Septimius Severus, and maridvnvm's gorgeous #2 Probus ADVENTVS.

I also will be going on how appealing the history behind each coin is:

Gold: stevex6's Pontos, Amisos AE30 - A myth, but one of my favorites from the Greek world
Silver: Masis's Valerian Antoninianus - What a dirty move to pull on the Romans...
Bronze: Doucet's Hadrian denarius - A fascinating journey he took!

GOLD - ValiantKnights Constans crosses to Britain - hey! I live there.
SILVER - JWharper's Cybele (+massive head) riding a lion. Interesting history and an odd coin.
BRONZE - Marid's Probus returning victorius - good piece, very ornate.

Honourable mentions: So many nice coins, all with great history, but I wouldhave loved to see that EID MAR....

Also, Marid, is probus doing a duckface?

augustus1 => I forgot to mention that although my Medusa coin may not be "worth" over $200 in today's markey, I paid slightly more than $200 for it, so I should be handicapped with -3 points ...

Wow, this race is very close, so far ... there are 5 or 6 ponies in the running (there are no extreme outliers, like usual) ...

Get your votes in. Right now the leader, because of my wacky bonus system, is a coin that got no votes! Voting closes at 11 pm Eastern time.

Here are the results of what was a very close contest. A winner emerged and four tied for second (Remember, there were bonus points for beginners).
maridvnvm #2 Probus ADVENTVS 14 GOLD
stevex6 Medusa 12 SILVER (tie)
jwharper Septimius Severus Carthage lion 12 SILVER (tie)
DavidUK Trajan 12 SILVER (tie)
Doucet Hadrian AFRICA 12 SILVER (tie)
No bronze because of the four tied for silver
ValientKnight #2 Constans/galley was not far behind with 11.

Thank you very much to all who entered and also to those who voted.
I pass the reigns to maridvnvm. Congratulations!
The smackdown is dead--long live the smackdown!

Wow a 4-way tie for silver, only two points away from a 5-way tie for gold!!

That kinda reminds me of an old Monty Python sketch ...
