Not sure if I should post this here or under international notes, but I found this going through some bank notes given to me and thought I'd share it.

Nice shinplaster.

These 25-cent denominations were called "shinplasters", a derogatory term that came to be applied to all paper money with a value less than a dollar. In Canada, the term refers only to 25-cents notes. The origin of these notes dates back over 200 years, to a paper currency issued by the Continental Congress during the American Revolution. The notes were redeemed at such a small fraction of their face value that soldiers used them as insulation in their boots or as dressings for shin wounds.

Thank you for the great info on the "shinplaster".

Are these found easily or are they considered rare? If someone has a currency book, could you tell me if it has a value. I keep a log with all the info I get from my coins & currency here, I think it will be fun in 5 or 10 years to look back and see if any of my stuff increased.

Thank You, Fishnwidow
