Ok so one of the shops I go to has quarters sets by yearsbut they are supposidily plated in 14k gold.
Are these usually collected? They are in Plastic holders in a black box.
They look nice but I havnt seen anyone really post about them or seen them anywhere really

They go by year and have one from each state in tbe set.
Anyone know what I'm talking about lol.
Sorry I am new to coins.

Those quarters did not come from the mint plated in gold. The amount of gold is so small that it isn't even worth it. Most collectors consider them to be post mint damage, like a sticker.

Your $ would be better spent on the real quarters, I would steer away from those coins.
Rest in Peace

I think these are collected by people who do not collect coins or have a very limited knowledge of coins. They see gold and think that will increase the value based on gold content. If you check by weight these coins have just a trace amount of gold.

To me it's nothing more than PMD.

I think some of them do look kind of cool. that said, the amount of gold is very minimal. I'm having problems finding how many milligrams of gold they are plated with, on the internet it seems they dont have to reveal it in the small type. I wouldnt pay more than 50 cents for one if I was going to buy one, which I wouldnt. if I found one in circulation id hold on to it though for its "thats kind of neat" value it has to me. on another note, are you sure its 14k? everywhere I looked was 24k, even trying to look up 14k ones specifically.

PMD and your better off just collecting the regular quarters, unless you can get them for VERY cheap. The gold plateing seems like a gimmic to me, as mentioned, to try to draw appeal to the coins, but I don't think anyone who knows about coins really collects them. Again as mantioned the gold weight added to them is minuscule and really adds no value whatsoever.. Actually I'd bet most would say it detracts from the value.
Although they do look kinda nice... But personally I wouldn't buy them, but if you like them and can get a good price then that's all that matters!
If you don't mind sharing, just out of curiosity what are they asking for them? Or how many in the set and how much for it?

meagan1823, check out the HSN site -- that's the Home Shopping Network. They sell the 24K gold plated quarters there.

They are selling a set of five quarters for $14.95.

They are worth a quarter each.

My husband got one in change at the pet store. The cashier cracked open a roll of quarters and they were all gold plated.

The ones that don't sell end up in circulation.
