hi fron nz got a 1879 florin yesterday,no matter how I try I cant get 38 or 39 arcs can someone explain what exactly to count,also there is no die no where it is suppose to be, I know there is a florin with no die no if this is the case is this a scarce coin thanks roy

With the 1879, there is no difference in the catalogue value with the presence of die numbers or not, so I guess there is no difference in the scarcity.

ESC489B die nr present,48 Arcs fine £30
ESC850 42Arcs fine £100
ESC851 48Arcs fine £15
ESC852 38Arcs fine £20

You will nee a well struck GVF and a glass to make the task easier..Good luck
