Tom B Valued Member United States 168 Posts	Posted 01/12/2013 10:09 pm That's an EF45/AU50. The dipped white surfaces are meant to fool folks into thinking it is a CH AU or even MS. There is far too much wear up and down the leg for anything higher than AU50. Report this Post to the Staff

I'm putting together a set in high circulated condition and feel there is just a little too much wear on the head, breast and leg to qualify for AU. I can't tell if it's cleaned without seeing it in person. Report this Post to the Staff
EFLargeCents Pillar of the Community United States 1304 Posts	Posted 01/13/2013 2:01 pm I am relatively new to serious collecting and am having trouble figuring out what makes this appear that it has been dipped. Of all the graded SLQ's I have seen in the xf45/au50 range that are marked "improperly cleaned" they all seem to have a very noticeable dull gray/silver color. This coin has a lustrous shine with slight yellow toning. I thought that the solutions people use to clean these strip away toning and luster. I compared it to some of the current SLQ's on Heritage that are graded in this range that were "improperly cleaned" and this doesn't look like any of them. Am I missing something? IndianGoldEagle Bedrock of the Community United States 36905 Posts	Posted 01/13/2013 2:32 pm Your coin has the typical weakly struck flat head, shield etc. It may have been dipped at some point but not cleaned. It's a very decent coin and no doubt AU in my mind. Report this Post to the Staff
