Hello, CCF.

Another recent raw CC Morgan pickup. A few flaws, but overall I thought it had nice eye appeal, imo, and goes well with the set I'm assembling. May not be everyone's cup of tea. First set of photos are in hand, what it actually looks like. Has a hit to the rim at 3 o'clock as shown in the pics.

The last two picks are the sellers pics, heavy lighting and over exposed.

I like this one much better than the last 78-CC I posted.

So, what are your thoughts on this one?

I think this would grade XF and that rim ding would Details it. Overall it has nice eye appeal to me.

All depends on the expectations you have for your set. I do like sets which have a 'these coins have served, and served well' look to them.

I'm going to use your photos for this one as I think it shows the coin more as it looks in hand.

i need to preface this by the fact that with the exception of the 79CC and 93CC the strikes are sharp and bold. there are exceptions and I think you 78 may be one of those that not everything we are seeing here is from circulation. I believe the hair around the ear and the eagle breast is partly a strike issue.

just to throw it out there, the coin may have had an old cleaning but it has re-toned nicely. haloing and blotchy toning she may have had a light dip to clean it up a little. maybe an attempt to remove the stain on the wing. if this is the case it would not affect whether or not the coin would details imo.

the lettering on both sides is pretty sharp. all of the recessed devices seem to be sharp like in the hair under the ear. a couple small marks in the field under US. nice ear definition. there is a small stain on the wing. the elephant in the room is the rim hit which doesn't infringe on the actual coin itself so I'm not sure if that is enough to detail it. a TPG may think so due to it depth.

i agree the coin has nice eye appeal. I think you have a nice XF45 coin and probably it would detail. I like it and if you have it in an album you wont even see the ding
