I guess mine would be considered a stack or hoard. I'm not opposed to the term. My "strict terms" would be the same as my end goal for my collection which would be "anything silver"... collector plates, coins, bullion, jewelry, commems and more.

According to the writer of "throw momma from the train" the coin scene was inserted specificialy to get the audience to like the Danny DiVeto character who prior to this was not in any way endearing to the test audience.

Sean1125 - I don't consider stacking of PMs to be hoarding. Stackers have definitive goals and are able to sell their items if they see an opportunity for a profit. In other words the don't get too emotionally attached to their items, selling items is just business.

Definitely specific collecting goals... In the immortal words of Ash Ketchum - "Gotta catch 'em all!"
Although my goal of a complete year set of every Canadian coin (including varieties such as the millennium quarters but excluding varieties such as small date vs large date, hanging numbers, etc.) seems horribly impossible now that I have seen the value of some coins :(

At what stage am I? I bought a used decorative dish because it's engraved with (very small amounts of ) copper, silver and gold. I don't buy dishes!

My field is very large but I'm not hoarder type of person. My main focus is in 20th-21st century world coins and I keep only one example of each type. I try to learn about history and other cultures via coins, so I'm not much interested in i.e. errors or minor changes caused by minting process. I also want to preserve coins as a piece of history for future generations. I don't see coin collecting as a problem if there is healthy balance with other areas of life. When you think only about coins and your collection you have lost the whole point of classic numismatics.

Mine is a highly specialized collection based around what I like. I'm not going to let a check list or an album tell me what I have to buy.

I was thinking that too. Some people will work on a collection and just hoard buying or searching coins in bulk. For example, I have books of wheat cents I work on plus I have a coffee can where I dump the rest.

Everything in my collection I found myself in pocket change :)
So definitely more of a hoard than a specialized collection, because none of the coins really have much in common

@allranger---I salute your collecting attitude and the independent spirit and thinking it's based on. In the end, you'll have a considerably more eclectic and interesting collection than one more typical album.
On my stash--- I'm basically a bullion-stacker but I do have some "collection" quality entries like a complete set of silver Britannias, etc. Since my stash is part hoard and part collection, it should probably be called a "hoarlection."

Hi my name is goldenchest and I'm a coin and currency hoarder. Ive been collecting for 15 yrs on and off and simply cant stop. Any coin I fimd interesting or potential interesting goes into a sort pile. Even coins I buy in flips have a jar they sit in until I find a spot for them in my album. I have a copper jar, a wheatie jar, sm/lg date jar, a ddo/ DDR jar, a foriegn jar, a damaged jar, a idk what this is jar, a variety jar, a to be search pocket change jar, a pre1960 nickel jar, an AU/BU jar, a bicentenial jar, and a jar for those that didnt make any of above, which is in turn rolled and used to buy more coins. Oh I almost forgot my namesake, jars of golden dollar which will be used to fill a pirate style chest when I find one I like at a good price. Then ill have a.chest of gold coins. Ish. Yep I'm definetly a hoarder and its going to stay that way. Lol
