They had the 5oz. Beaver coin on the Coin Show yesterday.
They said they had 200 of them and were selling it @ $549.
Is this normal for one dealer to get over 13% of mintage (1,500 was the mintage)?
Apparently they sold them all.

Apparently they sold them all. You don't need to be a dealer to order 200 coins. Most coins don't have a limit to the amount you can order. You or anyone else could have order 200 of the 5 oz coins. In fact, in the RFD forum, someone mentioned a MC member ordering 200 of the 5oz SML coins, thus causing it to go out of stock. |

this is another example of the RCM policy of letting a private company commisioning a coin. His company paid for the design for the 1oz. and 5oz. beaver coins and as such was allowed to buy half of the mintage. Kind of version of the polar bear 1.5 oz. silver bullion coin, but with at least canadian distribution. I guest the RCM will produce any canadian coin for the right price, waiting for a Precident Choice yellow loonie! |

With no limits and with such a small mintage, someone could really affect the price on a new hot coin if they had the funds to do so.
Of course that could also work the opposite way if it's a flop.

I am pretty sure that he is the owner of Canadian PMX in Richmond Hill. Their store has lots of coins! I bet that he has some kind of connection with the RCM. |

if you can afford to design and production cost for a nclt coin, the RCM will allow you to contol half of the mintage. thats why this and the 1oz. beaver will rise in price because one dealer has half of the production. take a look at the 5 oz. calgary stampede coin you can purchase everywhere at issue price. |

meet Mr. Bromberg at CAND in Hamilton last weekend he confirmed it, was previously told by a mint employe who believes this policy is wrong. By the way, Mr. Bromberg is a very nice guy. On Monday phone the store, I am sure they will confirm they designed these two coins.

on the shopping channel this weekend he raised the 1oz. 10.00 and the 5 oz. to 549.00 his company only has half of the mintage.

He always sells things at inflated prices on the shopping channel. I don't get your point about the stampede coin, the beaver is still available at issue price.

if you have half of a mintage you will most likely control the near term price of a coin, the point with the stampede coin is its over 6 months since sellout, distributed by the regular RCM dealers and you can still purchase it today at issue price. Chances are gatewest will raise their prices monday on the beaver coins. |
