if you can afford to design and production cost for a nclt coin, the RCM will allow you to contol half of the mintage. thats why this and the 1oz. beaver will rise in price because one dealer has half of the production. take a look at the 5 oz. calgary stampede coin you can purchase everywhere at issue price.

How come the 1oz was on sale at a discounted price at some stores?

You can still purchase the 5oz beaver at issue price.

meet Mr. Bromberg at CAND in Hamilton last weekend he confirmed it, was previously told by a mint employe who believes this policy is wrong. By the way, Mr. Bromberg is a very nice guy. On Monday phone the store, I am sure they will confirm they designed these two coins.

He always sells things at inflated prices on the shopping channel. I don't get your point about the stampede coin, the beaver is still available at issue price.

if you have half of a mintage you will most likely control the near term price of a coin, the point with the stampede coin is its over 6 months since sellout, distributed by the regular RCM dealers and you can still purchase it today at issue price. Chances are gatewest will raise their prices monday on the beaver coins.

Gatewest is sold out (at least the 5oz is sold out) why would they do it Monday lol Trust me, this information bothers me a lot, polar bear not so much, because its a bullion coin. This one really makes me mad, because it looks like every other mint product, sold in the traditional way. Other stores still have the 5oz at issue price, but this makes me think about why this 5oz was sold for $20 more than regular 5oz coins. Maybe this process added $20 to the issue price.

gatewest hold back popular coins like the farewell to penny series and raise prices on them, but my point is the same when one company is allowed to control the mintage of a coin, the collectors me and you will pay more.

For the 5 penney set, Gatewest didn't even allow people to buy the set at issue price. The only time they listed for issue price was in the middle of the night with phone calls only. As soon as the store opened in the morning, they were selling them for double the issue price. For the bummblebee coin, they jacked up the price twice in one day on the first day of public issue. They seem to follow forums like this one and RFD and ebay trends to sense what is hot. So for sure we will see a price jump for the 5 oz SML.

I wouldn't be so sure, I doubt it'll be like the penny set. IMO

@john100: I disagree. Not that I was partial to the beaver 1 and 5oz before, but knowing that they are the work of one slick private dealer (however nice the owner is in person) instead of mint artists puts me right off the coin. Collectors, you and i, don't have to pay the high price. Just don't buy it.

the whole point is the RCM should not have this policy of having a semi private mintage with benefits. This dealer just took advantage of this policy to make more profits.

Right, in doing so cheapening the mint's name perhaps but to no detriment of collectors that pick and choose what to collect.
