The last time I asked I was wrong so this time I tried to do all the comparisons myself. Checklist- weak er in liberty Pointed bottom of the 9 hook on 9 not pointing down but, more horizontal the only problem is I think I made a big mistake, I bought the mint set so I could cut out the Kennedy for my album. Did I cost myself a bunch of money? Is it even a small?

So......... the question is am I an idiot for not checking the cent before getting out the scissors? Or is the value still there? Also, there is some sort of film on it from the mint packaging, do I just leave it? So many questions sorry

Depending on the grade of the Lincoln is what makes the coin valuable. What did you pay for the mint set? I wouldn't clean anything off the coins you risk damaging them if you can get some good pics of the coins and post them in the coin grading section there are lots of folks on here that can give you an idea of the grade.

The 1970 mint set has more value because of the Kennedy half. A couple of bonuses are in finding a small date or a RPM (I found two in mint sets and cut them out). People interested in these mint sets are looking for what you've found. I think you did the right thing and cut them out. Your coin could be a small date. The weak liberty makes it promising, but some large dates also have a weak liberty. Its tough to call from your pictures, but looks like a small date to me.

As for TPG, that's up to you. I'd put in my album as that's one of the few I don't have yet.

Quote: is it worth sending to a TPG? In my opinion, it's not worth enough to justify the expense of sending it to a TPG. It's been a while since I've priced the 70-S small date, but I would guess a full red example would be somewhere around $50 or so. If it were me, I'd put it in a Dansco album or a 2x2 and leave it alone.

Nice find--and a lot of the SD dies were seriously overpolished. You can tell by the mintmark.
