Was checking to see if any of my A$ were mules (I had never heard of it before) when I saw this. What is it? PMD?

Hi Arkie, PMD is POST MINT DAMAGE.

Your 84 $1 has doubling in the legends as you have pictured but to be a mule it must be a 2000 dated $1 with a smaller obverse which leaves a distinctive double rim.

Like this coin, not my coin, just an image from google,

You misunderstood my question. I did not think this was a mule. What I have is a discoloration and deformity at the Queen's face and neck.

Although it looks hard to tell from the scan, I'm thinking your "deformity" is actually a blob of glue. Transparent glue can often look like blobs of metal, as some of our members have discovered. I'm guessing someone made a display featuring this Australian dollar, with the more interesting kangaroo reverse side facing out.
