Susan wrote an interesting thread in the ebay section concerning the values between PCGS and NGC.
So a few questions:
Does anyone care one way or the other that NGC is endorsed by the ANA or PNG?
Does this make any difference to the average collector?
Does the fact that NGC bought these endorsements matter?

I know that NGC bought their endorsement, you know, most members know...but most people on ebay do not...but soon find out, quickly!

Even with the purchase of this endorsement, NGC coins still trail PCGS in prices realized for the same coin in the same grade. Look at Heritage's completed auctions and PCGS coins far out pace prices realized for NGC coins. Not all of the time, but it sure seems to be most of the time.

Even the novice collector can read between the lines that NGC bought the ANA's blessing and pretty much take ANA's endorsement of NGC with buyer skepticism.

On ebay, overall the prices are comparable with some exceptions. I think this is a direct result of NGC's partnership with ebay in providing the information on a specific coin based on the serial number.

I think the reason that Franklins in particular are realizing higher prices in PCGS slabs is due to the fact that the population report is also available for the NGC graded coins. It shows up right in the auction. And, from what I've seen, NGC went on a rampage with assigning MS65 grades to Franklins.

The population report numbers are staggering. I would also like to point out that I have disagreed with quite a number of these MS65 grades. JMHO
Rest in Peace

My personal feelings on the matter is this. People all have their favorite grading company. Mine is ANACS. We lean to the ones we like. If one sells for more than the next....so what..? That's not going to get me to change. It's not saying the other compaies are bad just that I prefer ANACS.

Other people have selected PCGS and NGC and fee the same way I do about ANACS. If you have a nice coin, regardless of the slab, you will get a good price.

Okay catman, why do you prefer Anacs? I have preferrence for NGC simply because I believe that they are more consistent in their grading standards today. Now that doesn't mean that we use them exclusively. We will submit to PCGS if the particular coin needs to hit the higher value, (yes, I am a capitalist). We also use Anacs for any varieties as NGC and PCGS seem to have no clue about attribution. Now I have been doing a lot of research on IGC this past year. Their holders are by far the best on the market. Once I feel that their grading standards are dependable enough, they will be added to the group. This is just a personal preferrence.
