Today I won 3 loonies from him, paid 88-92 cents each

he's selling lots for 17 cents... the cheapest way to ship is letter mail for 63 cents, he took a massive lost on pocket change today..

i just don't understand why, could it be to work on his feedback?

Looks like someone is trying to buy a higher feedback score. Spend $100 in postage and fees get 100 feedback score seems like a good deal. Easy way to buy credibility. Would you rather buy from a dealer with 20 feedback or 100 feedback. I bet if you keep this ID for 4 months, it will be selling much higher priced items.

Or maybe they were just expecting more bids and now have a better idea of how it works?

Or they will be selling key date numismatic items, starting at 1-cent.... made in China...

Roger why just assume that he might start selling fakes ? just because he is new does not mean he even knows about those crappy things.
The guy is just starting off, and probably just figured with all the penny hype that he would get more bids.....

I assume, because I recognise a pattern... and on ebay history has habit of repeating itself... also, did you check out the sellers feedback? Looks like they tried to sell something fake already...

Call me a pessimist...

As fas as I am concerned,he is off to a bad start with already 2 negatives.I do not personnaly like any privacy as far as small amount bids are concerned either. It is written all over. This seller is building up his feedback number the cheap way.
You should ask him to place 10 of his lots in the same envelope to save on shipping next time you win.

Along with boosting the feedback, there is likely a financial incentive to do this. At least here in the US, once you get over 100 transactions and $1000 in sales in a 12-mo period you can earn Top Rated Seller status by maintaining relatively clean feedback. As long as all the goals are met, you get a 20% rebate on final value fees.

While these auctions are cheap, by the time he gets to 100 transactions, he may have an average sales price over $10. After that, he can start selling higher priced items with ebay taking less of a chunk. Don't know if Canada Post has a similar program, but in the US, if you get over $3000 per year, you also get a discount on USPS shipping.

In this item's description a seller admits to why they're doing it.

They won't be getting any positive feedback from me.

"They won't be getting any positive feedback from me."

...and why exactly is that? Did they do something to wrong you in some way?

It sure is really difficult to get positive feedback for new and inexperienced sellers.

ebay Feedback manipulation policy
Policy overview
What are the guidelines?

Allowed • Having the word "Feedback" in a title if that word is part of the item's name (for example, describing a book called "Reduce Feedback in Amps")
• Saying that you'll leave Feedback after receiving Feedback from other members

Not allowed • Exchanging Feedback for the sole purpose of increasing your Feedback score, getting website privileges, or enhancing your reputation
• Including the word "Feedback" or any reference to ebay Feedback in a listing title (except when that word is used to describe the item for sale)
• Manipulating another member's detailed seller ratings (DSRs) through a combination of repeat purchases and low DSRs to reduce another user's Feedback scores, or showing a pattern of leaving positive Feedback with consistently low DSRs
• Offering to pay members for their user ID
• Offering to sell, buy, barter, or give away Feedback
• Taking actions or using tools to figure out the detailed seller ratings that a buyer left for a specific transaction (DSRs are meant to be anonymous)
• Working with other members or registering multiple accounts to artificially increase your Feedback score

The answer to your question is yes they did do something to wrong me and you and everybody else too!
Is there anything else you need explained?

I don't think that offering positive feedback only after the buyer has left positive feedback is right either. I know there are some pretty shifty buyers, but I look at it like this. Once the money has been exchanged, and the item purchased, hasn't the buyer already fulfilled his part of the transaction?

Just a thought.

I agree with secoinedchance - buyers responsibility has ended with payment. Many dealers don't see it that way.
