In particular, a coin that was struck way off center on the planchet. I just think it would be a really cool addition to my collection, and a great discussion piece.

What do those typically go for? I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg. If that type of error is really pricey, is there another obvious/blatent type of error that is cheaper, but still cool to look at?

No date off center cents usually go for 5 to 10 bucks. Dated ones cost more.

Here is a listing I have for a off center that starts at 99 cents. Remove it if inappropriate:

I bought an expensive error coin, so I am listing a lot of error coins and two SAE 3 pc sets this week to pay for it.

Heritage is offering several "11¢" errors in their recently-closed auction listings. These are Lincoln cents that were overstruck on dimes, creating a very cool error. Two of these are graded MS-68 by NGC and they are truly spectacular. if they would give me a 80% discount from the $1437.50 "Buy It Now" price I would definitely consider getting one!

USAP,
if you are interested in purchasing an inexpensive error(<$100) on ebay and you want to make sure you are getting the real thing, check out Fred Weinberg's listings.

So where would that go in the 7070 - Cents or Dimes?
