Look at this ebay listing #300115095408. If this was such a huge error shouldn't NGC have stated that on the slab? Also the seller said the "U" on the cheek is from the edge lettering process but the letter is not incuse. The bidding has gone wild, and bidder ID's are blocked. Am I missing something?

I would say that I agree that it should be on the slab, but if the pictures provided are of that coin, then it is a great error coin. However, if I was this seller, I'd send it back in for attribution and reslabbing. I don't believe that just stating the error on a slabbed coin without showing it on the slab is a good idea to get the full value for it.

Keep in mind that a submitter has to request an error or variety attribution from the TPG and there is a nominal fee for it. If the submitter didn't notice when he first submitted it (which I find hard to believe) or didn't feel that this error was worth the extra $5 or so and didn't submit the fee or request the attribution, it wouldn't be on the slab. NGC is not going to take that on themselves.

I fail to see how the edge lettering process could have caused the effect shown on the coin. Rather, it looks like the edge of another coin was used to Punch a U into the coin, thus creating what looks like a raised U.

How did it get an MS65 with a huge hit on the cheek?

It is my opinion that if NGC would have seen this error on the coin ,and believe me they would have seen it. They NGC would have been on the phone to that person that submitted it asking if they were aware of the error. NGC would love to be the first one of the TPG to put there label on it if in fact it was a real error.
