This is an excellent thread. I have had a few problems with 2 buyers claiming to have not received coins, fortunately nothing of huge value but that is not the point. Both buyers are based in Italy, I have retained proof of postage for both transactions and I also digitally record the wrapping of every item I send for extra protection but it seems this is not enough. The only way I will post to Italy now is if the buyer pays for international tracked. The fact might be that the post is poor there but one of the buyers is definitely to be avoided.
This is the message I received :-
Dear kevsgenuinecoins,
I've don't recived my coin, why?send me quekly or resend me my money buy pay-pal. hi. valeria
- it2014.valer
This is how I replied :-
Dear it2014.valer,
I presume the postal service in Italy is rubbish. You paid for the coin on the 7th of January 2014 at 18.00.24 GMT, the item was wrapped on the same day and posted out to you the next day. We have full proof of postage and I will send a copy of this through to you shortly. When posting to Italy we always take the time to record every item electronically for proof that the item has been sent. The address on there was written perfectly :-
please confirm this to be your address.
It is over 4 weeks now from time of posting, this is very slow, even for the Italian postal service, please check this has not been opened by someone else and gone unnoticed by yourself as the only explanation is theft, as the address was written perfectly, the padded envelope has a printed return address label as well as a fully printed business card with contact details, including a telephone number, for myself. Wait a few more days and if it still hasn't arrived please open a case for a refund, this way it will be marked on record and also I will be returned my fee. I will also inform the police that this item has been stolen and will pass your details onto them so they can proceed making enquiries.
If the coin does however turn up, I would be grateful if you could let me know and leave good feedback.
Thank you,
Regards,
Kevin

I don't think I will ever post coins to Italy. Way too much risk in my eyes. I suspect many coins disappear at Italian customs due to cultural heritage laws.

I've never sent coins to Italy. But years ago when I was an Asian art dealer I did on occasion send items to Italy. It was always a headache, the mail there is so bad that it took a month or more for the items to arrive. I would also receive letters and e-mails from the buyers, but the items would eventually show up. Italy wasn't the only European country that this happen so after a while I only limited my sales to the US.

Often the address given by buyers is incomplete. For understanding the address layout for foreign mailing I find bitboost.com a good site. For Italy, you know the address layout is basically like this? " Name Via / Viale name, (always put comma before building number) bulding number 00000 (five digit postcode BEFORE village/town/city name) village/town/city name (AB) (<- two letter code for the province, can put brackets around them) Italy Europe (don't expect the mail sorter to know where a country is, most are smart but cover yourself)" The address for Hungary was the most odd, not only to write the address at the lower right of the package but also put "HUNGARY" after the person's name and then add the rest of the address. The other week I posted to New Zealand for the first time and spent some time checking out the correct address format on the New Zealand post website. In that example the address was to a shop, unit 2 on number 200 of the street. I found out that it can be written as 2/200. The buyer never provided this useful info, luckily I found out and it made the address neater and most important, they got the package in about 1 week. Not bad for going by airmail to the other side of the World.

P.S. Kev, I checked out by "advanced search" for "it2014.valer" and they joined ebay the same day they bought your coin. But they have bought four items (coins?) from an Italian seller who left them Feedback (positive, of course) on the 7th. Not a wise move as "it2014.valer" has not left them Feedback. I had a "first timer" from Italy, Salerno, buy a coin on Sunday, again I went through the rigmarole of sorting out their address, it was to be sent to his place of work. I also checked them out on Facebook (useful to find out if they portray themselves as "jokers" or look genuine) and he seemed to be into metal detecting judging from his profile pics. I await him getting "or not" the package. I do get a disproportionate amount of buyers from Italy, more than I have sold to the U.S.A., Canada and the rest of the Americas put together. It may be due to the listing title or even ebay may be pushing certain sellers onto their various foreign ebay sites? I aint complaining, I've had more problems posting to the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico than to Italy, despite always providing a "Customs Declaration Form", I guess that really translates into a "Contents Declaration Form, Feel Free To Steal". And related to the buyers address... I have never "purchased address labels" to print on ebay, for the said reasons that the buyers rarely ever give the correct address, so I write it all out instead.

That is interesting.. the seller is stamps and coins as well (how surprising). I don't know what the answer is to help here, apart from your original incentive to name and shame the buyers that intend to rip off genuine sellers. The ebay boffins seem uninterested and so do certain authorities, so the best thing to keep the people of CCF safe is to list the buyers that deserve to be blocked.

Here is another one, left me neutral feedback today as I wouldn't sell them coins very cheaply. Unfair but there is nothing the seller can do, unfortunately. They claim the coin has no detail, I actually sent this person a coin that was going to be listed for 7.25 GBP as I just knew they would complain. Can't win them all I suppose.

Also had an offer on a coin from a buyer in France, wants me to post a £225 coin to him without the tracking.... mmmmmm

Kev, Bottom Feeders like "ejoh5974" are often the ones to scam or leave Neutral/Negative Feedback. Case in point: 26/2/2013: "ashtongrimes" won the auction of an "AE Antoninianus, Gallienus, Unofficial Issue, Abundantia" for £1.04. He only payed after an Unpaid Item Case was opened. After 2 days from posting it, he wanted a refund as he claimed he " had it checked by an expert who says it is fake". I explained that it was an "Unofficial Issue" hence the quality and asked for the name of the expert and also informed him on ebay's policy on Feedback Extortion. He was entitled to a full refund on returning the coin in its as sent condition. He never replied. In comparison, Buyers of pricey coins (£40+) tend to be the easiest to deal with. On the subject of pricey coins, do not post that £225 coin to France without a tracking number. They can fork out the £225 but not the £9 for a fully tracked service? BS alert.

4r2o has still not replied, 6 days after contacting me that he had not received the coin. AFTER I LEFT HIM FEEDBACK. Surely a humble Royal Mail Certificate of Postage is not the reason for such silence?

Et voilà: " hello, i have a good news, I've received my coin today- I'm very happy because I prefer have my coin than monney, I've bought this coin for my collection- the fould was the french post who missed the letter in a box ,i ask to my postman if he founds a letter from England and today he tells me he has found my letter - best regard : 4r2o ( i'll put a good feedback)" So, the coin was almost delivered except the postman "missed the letter" and would not have delivered it unless the Buyer asked him. Yes, the Cheapskates are the most likely to forment a non existant problem just to be able to leave Negative Feedback to cover up the fact they were in error.
Your listing clearly states "Quantity" and so if someone is lucky to have a functioning brain, eyes and hand coordination then they can type what amount, from what remains, to buy. £2.75 is per coin.
Do you know what this person's main account is? This may have been deliberate by some other seller.

Unfortunately I don't know that yet. However, being a business seller with a shop allows access to what they call top customer care. 5 minutes on the phone this morning and all is straightened out, the negative removed, a warning sent to the buyer and I have him blocked every which way. Is there a way we can get the bad buyers listed in one place? I can stick an extra page on the end of a website if that would help.
