My wife came home from work and asked me if I wanted some pennies. I of course said "sure". She then gave me some old copper coins that were given to her by an older co-worker who knew that we collected coins. He didn't want the coins, as he has had them forever and is really mostly a stamp collector.

The coins are:

1890 Britain One Penny- VG
1870 Britain Half Penny- VG (but bent)
1845 Britain Farthing- G

1899 Canada 1 cent- VF
1871- Canada (Prince Edward Island)- VG

I know nothing about non-US coins, so if anyone knows approximate values of these that would be great. The grades are approximate based on the way the coins look to me, although I could be off.
Rest in Peace

Sorry, I would love to help, but the reference books I would use are loaned out.

I do have three of the five coins you listed, and I don't think any of them were worth very much as far as dollars and cents is concerned.

The farthing catalogues at $9 in Fine, and might well be the priciest coin in the list. The other British ones are probably less than $1.

The Canadian cent is listed at $4 in VF-20, while the Prince Edward Island is listed at $1.75 in VG-8.

I'm using a 2004 Krause, but it probably doesn't make too much difference.

Whether or not they're worth a lot, that's a nice little present from a co-worker, and sounds like a nice little addition to your collection too.

Thanks for the info guys!

Yes it was a really sweet present from a co-worker. My wife was a little hesitant to take the coins, but he said that he didn't collect coins anymore and didn't want them. He just said that if they were worth a ton and we went on a vacation to send him a postcard.

There are many good websites that list world coin values:
