This is one of the best looking Morgans in my collection. Please excuse the pics, I'm still learning. At about the 5 o'clock position the denicles seem to have a fold, as far as I can tell, there's no damage to the coin, I'm not sure what that is as it's only on the obverse.

Pics are LARGE....warning, trying to keep as much detail as possible. Some of the pics were only to attempt to capture the brilliant luster, mirror like IMO, it's very beautiful in person. Thanks for looking.

I see a couple of areas with slight rub. The area on the rim that you see as a "fold" is actually a Cud. This is considered a mint error but is very common in Morgans and doesn't command a premium; however, it doesn't hurt the value. I believe this coin is AU55-58.

Nice coin. I would call this a nice 'slider'. An AU58 that could pass for a low MS60 or MS 61.

BT, we have a resident expert in Metalman who will be happy to compare your 88-O with his (soon to be mine) and render an opinion. Personally, I lean toward AU-58 despite the notoriously weak strikes of New Orleans Morgans. There's apparent rub marks on the reverse fields next to the Eagle and maybe on the breast. Also, there's a few marks on the rim which I think are circulation marks (as opposed to bag marks). Also, as you mentioned, the images could use a little whitening but good focus.

Here's a thread on another 88-O Morgan which is badly undergraded.

Thanks for the input. I definately need to work on my pictures. By far, coins are the most difficult thing I've ever photographed. I think I need to build a light box or something because I'm really struggling with lighting.

To be honest, I'm surprized by the grading you guys gave thus far. IMO, this is probably the best looking Morgan in my collection, both to naked eye and under a magnifier. I thought for sure it'd be in the MS60-64 range....but of course, I'm a noob to all this. Is this a candidate for PCGS or other grading company? I really need to figure out which of my coins to send in for grading, but I'm worried since you guys told me about "body bagging".

BT, I don't think your 88-O Morgan would be bodybagged. It doesn't appear to have any of the usual signs of cleaning, e.g., dark/dirt in the recessed areas (e.g., inside the letters, along the device edges) or hairline scratches (caused by a buffing or polishing wheel).

It's value would be enhanced by getting it professionally graded/slabbed by one of the top TPGs. It could indeed be MS grade; grading from images is difficult at best. If it were my Morgan, I probably would have it slabbed if for no other reason than to protect it. There is not universal agreement on this, however since many collectors like to fondle their coins (with gloves, of course) rather than a piece of plastic covering.

If you don't belong to PCGS's Collector Club or NGC's Collector Society or the ANA (NGC will grade ANA members' coins without the requirement to join its Collector Society), then ANACS would be my choice since no membership fee is required and its grading fees are reasonable.
