I found this in my pocket change today, noticed a weakness in the first two letters in LIBERTY and the last two digits of the date. It shows signs of circulation; however, I don't believe it is such to warrant the lack of sharpness in the indicated areas. Is this from dirt, grease, or something stuck in the obverse die? I don't figure it to be anything special - just curious as to what may have been the cause of this weakness. And, too, figured there might be a few others here who haven't seen this type of.....whatever it is, so I thought I'd post it for me and for them. Thanks.
If it were wear the highest points would be worn down first. For this much wear to show in the outer lettering the bust would be completely flat. This is just a filled die.
