Plated 1955 Cent - Coin Community Forum

RUSH2112 New Member Canada 49 Posts	Posted 12/17/2013 10:33 am Found this 1955 cent while searching pennies last winter before they went out of circulation. Looking for some input as to, if this coin could have been plated by mistake at the mint. My research indicates the mint did use a nickle plating process on steel nickels up to 1955. My guess is that this coin was holed and that is not goo but solder of some sort used to fill the hole. Look at the top of the reverse, you can see where a hole used to be. As for whether it is a SF or NSF, on this coin the obverse details are strong enough that you can clearly see the shoulder fold without having to look at the "I". Report this Post to the Staff
