Hi all , i store my coins in double flips, then in album. On the paper I write the emperor and personal number for more information in my catalogue. This is a picture of my desk.  This is the album that I just started.  And this is the catalogue.  I also have a cabinet made by me, but I never used it.  So how do you store your coins? And how look your desk  |

Nice, I wanted to use such a system but it was a lot of hassle and too pricey to get proper coin flips. I might move to that once I've completed the clear out of the excess collection (ive got many many upgraded or unwanted coins).
Id take a picture of my desk, but its no where near that neat.

My desk is always trashed, the coins however are always stored neatly and I can access any coin I want almost instantly without having to hunt around much. Remember what they say; A tidy workshop = idle hands    |

I use a coin cabinet. It's not terribly exciting, being just a box, so here is a photo of a few coins in one of the trays.  I write information about the coins on paper disks (commonly known as 'tickets') which I keep (along with any tickets written by earlier owners that came with the coin ) under the felt cushion.  And yeah, it's a tiny image but for some reason I can't seem to upload images from Photobucket. Your's looks very professional by the way. Nice bit of cabinet making! . Edited by Tom Goodheart

Panjabi I use 2x2 with the information on them and than put the coins in albums. I also keep a data base on my computer. I haven't gotten around to including pictures with the data. Too lazy I guess. You have a nice storage setup for your coins.
Trout, any of those swords antique Samurai? I got my first Samurai sword (Nihon-To) back in the early 70's when I was stationed in Japan and have been a collector ever since. Though I must say it's been years since I bought one. They have become way out of my price range.

World coins are in 2x2's and album pages. Common date circulated coins in 2x2's and boxes. Unc coins in albums and proof coins in OGP.

both of my desks are a complete disaster...which is kind of how I like it. all my ancients are in pvc free 2x2 flips, most in cardboard coins boxes with a pack of silica stuff thrown in to keep moisture at bay. al the info is on inserts in the flips. I have some stuff in an album also, mostly stuff I've cleaned myself. some in a old camera box (strange coins that wont fit in things...giants, scyphates. I've flirted with the box and trays idea.
make sure your flips are pvc free..and make sure your album sheets are pvc free!

My album is from Lighthouse so it should be PVC free. This coin cabinet is made by walnut wood and I think there will be a problem for the coins. Singer what you mean with "OGP" I want to see more desks  Edited by Mascot

Singer what you mean with "OGP" Yes, Lighthouse will be safe I'm sure. Walnut? I'm not sure. Mine is mahogany, which in the UK at least is traditional, and once seasoned considered safe. But I am uncertain about ancients anyway. Most have patina and have been handled for many years. If I had modern coins, particularly copper which might tarnish/ tone I'd be more careful. But ancients have been stored in cabinets for generations and I don't know that a few years near some walnut is going to affect them at all. I think if I made a cabinet like that I'd be tempted to use it! I'm guessing OGP means the original packaging? It's still early in the US for an answer. We Europeans have the run of the place for a few hours yet! |
