Cracking A Late '70's Proof Set: How?

iontyre Valued Member United States 269 Posts	Posted 06/06/2014 1:12 pm I'm considering cracking out a few proof sets from the late 70's to use the individual coins in some sets. I've opened some from the later years 81 and 82, but not sure how to go about the sets from 75 - 79. Anyone opened one of these? Wear eye protection because shards are thrown at extremely high speed. I hold the plastic with my feet and hit the screw driver with my right hand. Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps. It's probably a lot easier and safer than it sounds. The flying plastic in the worst thing but it doesn't fly often and it's so light that it slows quickly in the air. junior e Pillar of the Community United States 931 Posts	Posted 06/06/2014 11:42 pm What about taking a sabre saw, and cutting about an eighth of an inch in from the entire outside edge? I have a Bosch Sabre saw that cuts extremely smooth. I wouldn't try it with a $30 Black and Decker though. Report this Post to the Staff
rupester Pillar of the Community United States 1300 Posts	Posted 06/07/2014 01:27 am Gently brake the outer black plastic with a narrow tool...it should free up the two halves twist em oppostite as has been said careful not to break the red plastic center...or....CHAINSAW! Hahaha muahahaha just kidding..do want to see a video of the feet and hands... Its a 50,000 idea hard hat safety glasses glow in the dark safety vest bubble wrap and a awesome job safety briefing!!
