Just think about the legitimately rare Chain Cent you could get for 100k and then compare it to this over hyped rubbish that just sold for 100k. Amazing ........

I think we are viewing this all wrong...
We need to work together to develop a label (or labels) that can be sold to these people. I think they would be perfect to attach directly to any OGP coin - completely cover the coin with a CCF label that certifies the coin enclosed as approved by CCF members. (notice it signifies nothing but isn't that the point?)
We could advance it further and create labels for the various holders of graded coins - that cover the coin as well - and certify those as approved as well. (again the approval means nothing - but you get a fancy label!)

Starting to think this was just bs created to induce hype given the recent news that a major dealer apparently hired actors to storm the lines at the mints to make it seem as if there was more demand than actually existed.  I'm inclined to agree unless more specific information on the transaction is released. To say that some anonymous Coin Vault customer paid 100k and expect everyone to believe it is pretty flimsy. |

Why would anyone pay actors to go run to the mint (especially people that don't even look like they could afford to buy let alone even care about this coin) and create a major headache for police and potentially create a life threating situation?
If they wanted to waste that kind of money why not just give it to me....

Seriously though, why would somebody pay $250 million for Paul Cezanne's painting "The Card Players"? Or $155 million for Picasso's 'Le Reve'? Just paint on a canvas, yes? I would think what motivates wealthy collectors which unfortunately I am not one is rarity, desirability, and bragging rights.
However, I would agree. There are no serial numbers on these coins, nothing to differentiate one MS-70 gold Kennedy from another except for those labels. But the investor can always say, there is only one first coin, first issue, and I have it. Heck of a price to buy a label.

Pardon me for guessing, but didn't they sell the FIRST Kennedy gold coin at the Philadelphia mint a couple of hours before they sold the coins in Chicago?
If anyone has the 'official' times they started selling the Kennedys at Philly Mint, Denver Mint, and the Chicago hobby-show; it would be appreciated. Thanks!!
