Can you provide a picture - or at least a detailed description of each side of the piece?

Your reference to it being a "State Fair" piece makes me wonder if it is one of the official US commemorative half dollars issued between 1934 and 1938 or a privately-struck token or medal available during the Texas Centennial Exposition. An uncirculated half dollar would be worth over $100 (maybe quite a bit over) while a private token/medal might only be worth a few dollars.

Pictures of your piece would be the best way for us to help you.
