lol....the last pic was actually the seller's pic, while the rest were mine. oh well. Doing some research, this is actually the rarest variety....variety 3. All of the variety 3s had a weak shallow "C" in the die that was used....so this is common of that variety. Not sure iof the value should be higher than the others because of the rarity of the variety, or lower than the others because of the weakness in the C.....but I feel that I paid a decent price for it at $2650 shipped.
My goal is to put together a complete mintmark set of AU+ $5 liberty eagles. What is interesting about the $5 liberty is that it is the ONLY coin that makes use of every mint used to make US circulating coinage, including, dahlonega, charlotte, carson city, denver, san francisco, new orleans and philadelphia....so it is the ideal piece for a complete mintmark type set. I also own a n 1848-D AU50 PCGS, so I have the 2 most difficult ones out of the way. Now to move onto Carson City and New Orleans, which are the second most challenging. Pretty much all new orleans $5 liberty's are scarce, with the 1909-O actually being the most common; even though it is one of the most expensive.
