Best auction ever for me, won 2 of 3 "must have" items at a very reasonable price.

I went one for six. Unfortunately by the time mine came up for bidding I had just realized that the screen was locked and when I tried to unlock it, it would not accept my password so I had to reset everything and by that time I just got the last one that I wanted.
Online would freeze as well every once in a while. Apparently others had the same problem as I was told today.
Oh well, next time I will have to do this in person.
Congrats to the Organizers and Vendors for three great days

I was there for the Thursday night auction. I won my lots, with the most competition over the Nova Scotia Trade dollar lot. I won lot #664 quite cheaply, and I love it. http://www.icollector.com/Canada-Ep...ra_i20499199I had consigned a large amount of Trade dollars and exonumia to the auction, and was pleasantly surprised at the interest and bidding activity on those lots.

SPP.
How exactly does consigning something to one of these auctions work? Who sets the prices? What are the fees attached? What if it doesn't sell?
Sorry for all the questions but would like to try it.
Thanks

Maddog.. I can probably answer most of those questions..
You send in your items to the auctioneer... you on the submission form there is generally a place where you could put a minimum starting bid.... (sometimes you can set a reserve) ...
Fees associated usually can range from 10 - 25% of the hammer price.. upon completion of the auction they simply take the hammer price minus their cut and send you a cheque.
I've never had an item that didn't sell.. but I suppose if there wasn't anyone that even put in the minium bid.. the auctioneer would ship the items back to you...

Thanks AG
I thought they only took the Buyers Premium as their fee. Will have to do some more research before I try this avenue.
Much appreciated

It all depends... The auctioneer will take their cut.. sometimes there's a "buyers premium" associated... so it's the hammer price and the buyer pays the premium... sometimes its a % of the hammer price... and sometimes it's a combination of the two.. Here at one local auction the buyers premium is 5% of the hammer price & the seller pays the auctioneer 15-20% of the hammer price...every auctioneer may do things just a bit differently... ebay for example charges a premium to the seller on the hammer price.. and the buyer just pays their final bid price... auctions on the icollector web site charge the buyer a premium on top of the hammer price.

Further to AG's point, I know auctioneers who charge in upwards of 30-35% consignment fee. I've also seen buyer's premiums range from 15-25%. Be sure to research carefully. Questions you may want to ask: how they advertise their auctions and make catalogues available, and get references of past auctions. The auction biz is highly competitive and there are many unethical auction operations out there.

Hey guys... I have a question for you all regarding payment for this auction...
So this auctioneer accepts a very wide range of payment types... which I think is great...
But here's the deal...
If I arrange with the to send a cheque I have to wait for the cheque to clear then they will ship.. (okay no probs there)
I think I read they also accept EMT...
But C.C. or paypal is REALLY easy for me.. however when I went through the steps to pay via paypal.. it converted the amount I owed into U.S. funds.. therefore I was about to be stuck with the conversion rate as well..
Long winded question.. I'm sorry.. but if I pay through cheque or EMT does the payment also have to be in U.S. funds?
I was a bit put off that I would have to pay the conversion... as the auction itself was listed in CAD... the auction company is Canadian .. yet when I try to pay via pay pal it's converting my total price into USD then asking me to pay the conversion rate which is even more...

That sounds really strange. I do not recall seeing anything on the website regarding payment that said certain payments would be charged in US funds. I went down and paid cash and did notice a gentleman paying for his purchases with a cheque, which was from a Canadian institution.
I believ there was a phone number on the website, I would call them and ask them why this is happening, maybe they will be able to accomodate you another way.
Good luck
