The odd places are memorable for me. An 1850-BB 5F from Toulouse. 1875 and 1878 cc quarters from Bradenton FL. An 1889 half from Holland MI. Internet purchases don't compare.
GR58, I sold some estate sterling yesterday, containing about the same silver in 4 table pieces as a Morgan. Basically foil wrapped around lead. The dealer shook my hand and gave me the $11 because that was my expectation. Grandma's candlesticks and shakers might have cost $150 but there's a vast difference between buying and selling.

If I'm not mistaken, that Kennedy from 64 is $6.20 melt, so I'd say that's a pretty good deal!!

This is indicative of what the market's like in my area. Bought several weeks ago at a somewhat high end coin shop for $20. I suspect this was originally sold via mail order, possibly featured on one of the TV coin shows, and I'll bet a lot more was paid for it then.

Lucky, that is a very nice $20 coin. The one that I had today ( I got guilt trooped by a friend that I shouted it to today and got my $25 back for it) wasn't quite that nice.

I picked up a couple of Morgans last weekend and I paid $17 each for 2 cleaned coins, and $20 each for 3 VF+ coins. 4 out of 5 were O mint coins including a nice 1882-O

I think I'm still in the fair range though. With it being from someone that is willing to work with me on the price so that it is acceptable for each of us, I'll take the extra buck or two hit.
(Sorry that I didn't get pics up last night, my wife had a list of stuff for me to do that did not include playing with my coin collection.)

Darth Morgan said: Quote: If my LCS sold Morgans for $18 I would clear out the bin. I'm not even kidding. Bought out of a shop's $18 "cull" tray today (their asking price, possibly could haggle to get, like, 3 for $50). Even with silver prices up a bit since this thread was started, this is more or less where the market continues to be at in my area for less than AU/MS specimens (and this one might, well, at least if the grader had a hangover, be an XF/AU wobbler - it actually looks a lot better in the hand than it does in these "quickie" photos, some nice luster and the peripheral toning has a pleasing iridescence to it). But the price is no big deal in these parts, although in the interest of full disclosure, the Morgans that turn up at this price point are mostly VF/XF 1921's - but they're still Morgans. Can't tell you how tempted I was to post a picture of another coin's reverse with a "CC" mintmark....

ON the wholesale market culls are being bought around 17 and VG's around 22. 1921's are a little less.

At my LCS, they have two "worn out" bins for Morgans that, until recently, held a decent variety of dates.
Some cleaned, some not. I filled about a fourth of my Morgan Dansco set from there.
Those fluctuated, but are around $21 now. They also only have 1921s. Other collectors and myself basically cleaned them out.

The shop I go to had them (all commons and in VG or lower condition) at $15 a month ago, but I'm guessing they increased to $15.50 or $16.00 each since then. My last purchase was a high-grade 1925 Peace dollar for $19.00.

Wait. What? Are you serious? Oh goodness. That would have made my year! Did you get any? @Lucky Cuss- I just purchased an 1887 this week that looks remarkably like your 1889- same condition and greenish tone around the periphery.
