Have you ever lost money or been scammed on ebay? or anywhere else? Or ever been ripped off by paying too much! Or given a wrong coin thatwas described differently? Post it here!! Me, Luckily nothing because I research the coin and come back to the shop and bargain and I never buy from ebay, I dont trust ebay sellers ! |

The scam belongs to yourself. If you buy from a bad dealer/seller, you are to blame. With all the available information today, you will never have to suffer from a bad purchase.
Sure there are husksters out there. Sure there are bad sellers/dealers. Sure there are very good counterfeits. However, if one wants to avoid being scammed, one only has to learn.
I have lost good money on bad coins, but 100% of the blame lies with me. If I were to pay attention..........
Number 1 rule. There are NO coin faires out there. If the deal is SO good, it isn't real. People DO NOT sell coins for free.
Number 2 rule. You MUST know your coins. Don't rely on the slabs, or the dealers.
Number 3 rule. Be honest with yourself. If you make yourself believe that you know what you are doing, you WILL only hurt yourself.

ND, Boy am I crushed.! Now I learn there is no coin fairy. When I was growing up my Mom had me stick my tooth under my pillow so the coin fairy would leave me money to buy a coin. catman  |

I have bought hundreds of items off of ebay and have been happy with 99% of my purchases. I have returned a few things with no problems. Overall I do not have anything bad to say about ebay for buyers if you stay away from the scams, by educating yourself. Looking at a sellers Feedback is a very, VERY important. Also some sellers will become your favorite and you will buy many items from them time and time again, very trusting relationship formed from multiple purchases. |

When we were first starting out and trying to get our business going, we were selling lower-end condition coins. I was buying lots off of ebay and then sorting them into sellable coins and culls. I saw this "great" deal for 1000 coins that did not contain wheaties and, very stupidly and without any research, bought it and sent a check. Well, the seller was NARU'd, the check was cashed, I got no coins, and I was out $50. Fortunately, a cheap lesson, but definitely a lesson learned. It wasn't long after that that I joined some forums and started really learning about what I was doing. |

Yes, Catman, there is a coin fairy! There are those who would tell you different but just as sure as the unicorn and pegasus roamed the earth the coin fairy still flys! Even if it is only in our dreams who is to say the dreams are not real and this life of ours is really the dream. Fairies are there!

What?! No Coin Fairy? Next thing you'll tell me is that Santa and the Easter bunny aren't real either....  Anyways, staying sort of on topic- I've been lucky with my few ebay experiences. Most of what I've bought is books, and everything has gone well. Rachel [:p] |

I once bought a whizzed coin when I was very green. (I'm still green but not as green as I was then! There was really no excuse for it since it was at a coin show and I could see the coin firsthand. I should have shown it to a knowlegeable person before buying. It was very shiny and a good job of whizzing. I had heard of whizzing but never seen it in person. This coin was what I would call "shiny" all over. Knowing now that true mint luster moves around the coin as you rotate it in the light, this "luster" stayed the same, but I didn't know how to recognize it. Much later I was told it had been whizzed. Then, with a strong glass and tilting it just right, I could finally see the microscopic whizz marks. It still was not easy to see. It was a shame because the technical grade would have been AU, and it was a nice Barber half. The "dealer" I bought it from kept telling me how he could see the mint luster on it. I realize now he was just a part timer and unscrupulous; whether he was the whizzer or not I don't know. I thought I was buying a BU coin and paid AU price. Sound familiar? Trying to get something for nothing...ha ha, if it's too good to be true, it probably is. (too good to be true!) At least he didn't con me into paying BU price! Expensive lesson for me. Be careful! If you're not sure, ask someone you trust.
