After I tortured everyone with my 1883 no cent nickel pics. I was pretty upset I had damaged it. I put in in acetone last night and added about 6 drops of bleach in 6 oz of acetone and look at this !

That looks like it came out pretty darn good. Since all of that stuff came off in acetone, I'll hazard a guess that it was PVC. The surface doesn't look like it suffered very much from the acetone either, which kind of surprises me. I'm glad it all came off.
Rest in Peace

Very nice result
Only beware of doing this to coins with hairlines or scratches
or bagmarks because after the treatment they will look
like having knifeslashes as deep as the grand canyon

The bleach oxidised the organic material which in turn then could be more easily dissolved in the acetone

If you want to experiment
Acetone can do no damage to metal because it is a solvent and it cannot dissolve metals
( This does not mean the coin will look better afterwards ! )

Acetone will however damage the surface of your fridge if you use it to clean off water resistant marker ink because it tries to dissolve the paint or plastic of any appliance or the platisizer from PVC etc or grease from your fingers if you put your fingers in it they will go white drying and be bone dry for some time (not a good idea )
