I have no books with me right now, and am certainly not familiar with these coins per say, so take this with a grain of salt. I see the 1861 as being a weak strike coin. There is a ton of detail in the leg and gown, but the shield shows almost nothing. My guess would be high mid AU for this coin as I am just not familiar enough to tell if there is actual wear. For the 1892, I think I see some serious wear going on. compare the leg and shield on this one to the 1861 and you can see why I think the 1861 is merely a weak strike. I don't know the standards for these, but my guess would be 75% hairlines and almost a full shield for XF, and this doesn't have it. I may be stingy on the bottom coin, and am probably way off on my summation/reasoning, but I think it looks a little beat up..... Report this Post to the Staff
