The consensus among biblical scholars is that the text of Mark was written down in Greek-possibly in Rome-about sometime between 66-70 CE. A shorter version appears in Chapter 21 of the Gospel of Luke, which dates from about 80 to 90 CE. Jesus and His disciples were sitting in the Temple in Jerusalem, watching the crowd deposit contributions into a collection box.
