I forget what it stands for exactly but it has to do with the fact that the calander was adjusted during his lifetime.

Yes. O.S. stands for Old Style, referring to the old method of assigning dates by the Julian calendar. That method was changed in about 1750. The conversion from old style to New Style (N.S.) varies depending on what century the old date is in. According to the article I found, you need to add 11 days to O.S. dates from the 1700s, so Jefferson's birthday by N.S. dating would actually be April 13, not April 2. Jefferson himself left instructions that his birth date and date of death would be shown on his tombstone by O.S. and N.S. dates, respectively.
