I just paid for something with a couple of Presidential dollars. The lady collecting the money said: "Oh, my what are these? I've never seen these before." I replied: "They are dollars." She said: "Oh, did you make them yourself?" The man seated next to her explained that they really were money. She then proceded to buy them for herself from the cash register. She then asked why I would spend such valuable coins. I told her she could get them at her local bank, but she didn't believe me. I really like the Presidential dollars, because they are so very shiny. A lightly circulated one looks almost as good as a proof cent. I wish they would also release the president's spouses into circulation, as I think those are very good looking coins.

I know how you feel. I had a similar experience on Friday when I paid for a sandwich and gave the cashier a Jefferson Dollar. The cashier spent a good 30 seconds studying the dollar before telling me she is going to buy this one. Its amazing to see the reaction on people's faces when you hand them a dollar coin. Priceless.

I enjoy spendin em too.

However NOTHING compares to spending Ike dollars at fast food restaurants with teenagers working. I've lost count at how many times I have met the manager on duty
Rest in Peace

I enjoy spending the Presidential dollars. The reaction has been almost always the same -- the clerk takes a long, long look, and then accepts them. The reaction suggests they know about the coins, but never see any.

I bought something from a dollar store with one. The clerk told me "it feels kind of light". I was tempted to say "yeah, they didn't come out as good as the last batch", but I'm not sure she would have found it as funny I would have.
