I bought this last night for $69.50 very clean face I think undergraded could be a 64 or 65 what do you think?

Price doubles at 64 and over $700 in 65 worth resubmitting to pcgs?

If I do resubmit I just send it in its holder and they crack it out and regrade correct?

Thanks.

I would crack it out so they won't be swayed by the grade.

I'm not good with Morgan's but hopefully the Daves will drop by and give a grade.

I too, would crack it out, to give the grader a fresh look at it. There is always the danger that it will drop a grade if you crack it. I don't think that is a worry here.

Seems to me that, although it is a beautiful coin, it does have enough marks and dings to keep it at MS 63. But I am no expert in this series and am only going by the MS 63 and 64 Morgans I have.

I will wait for more opinions I also will ask my local dealer what he thinks before I decide to crack it out or keep it as is.

I suggest we put this conversation on hold until we can get better pics once you get it in hand

The lighting in the obverse photo hides luster breaks; I predict that there will be 63-level chatter on the cheek in hand. I hope I'm wrong!

Anyways, if it does look like it has a shot at an upgrade, PCGS offers three options:

In their reconsideration service, they will evaluate the coin in the holder and crack it out only if it upgrades. Otherwise, you get it back in the original holder. Rumors say that it is hard to get an upgrade via reconsideration. That may be true; the grader has to grade through the plastic, so might be more conservative. I have used this service once, and did receive an upgrade (from AU50 to AU53).

The regrade service guarantees that the coin won't get a lower grade - but because the coin is cracked out before grading, you do get a new holder even if the coin does not upgrade. I have not used this service. I like the old holders, so even when a coin is undergraded in one, I keep it as is and enjoy it as a PQ example.

Cracking and submitting raw prevents "previous grade bias" but there is no minimum or guaranteed grade. I have cracked and submitted a number of coins, and achieved pretty much every scenario - from major upgrade to major downgrade (MS64 to Details, Cleaned!). It's exciting, for sure.

Looking forward to seeing how the coin looks when you receive it.
Rest in Peace

It looks like a solid 63 from what I can tell from the photos but I can't say with any certainty that it may be a 64. You may want to test the water by sending it to CAC before you crack it out if it's borderline.

Nice buy. Yeah, definitely wait to see what it looks like first. If you decide to send it in, a good acetone soak might be in order first, the green stuff might come off...old pvc residue?

This coin has been around the block and anyone who has previously owned this coin in the last couple of years would have cracked it out and resubmitted it. From the pictures I doubt it would get MS-64. That said, it would probably be better to see if CAC will sticker it than try to get PCGS to upgrade it. Collectors really like green beans on these old green labeled holders and typically will pay a premium as much as one grade point depending on the coin for them.
